Using the Probe Tools

You can view the values and coordinates of the voxel, or selected 2D or 3D neighborhood, under the mouse cursor with the tools on the Probe panel. You should note that multiple values will be displayed for views that contain multiple objects, such as image data, multi-ROIs, scalar meshes, and graphs.

Probe panel

Probe Panel

Values that appear in gray text indicate that the probed voxel(s) is not visible in the 3D view, but still intersects with a visible voxel. For example, in the case that two datasets are added to a view, but some voxels of one the datasets are not visible.

The following Probe tools are available on the panel.

Description

Point Probe… Reports the position and value(s) of the selected voxel in 2D and 3D views.

Disk Probe… Reports the position and values of the selected circular neighborhood that is aligned with the current 2D view.

Square Probe… Reports the position and values of the selected square neighborhood that is aligned with the current 2D view.

Sphere Probe… Reports the position and values of the selected spherical neighborhood that is aligned with the current 2D view.

Cube Probe… Reports the position and values of the selected cubic neighborhood that is aligned with the current 2D view.

The following measurements are available for probed points and neighborhoods.

Probe measurements
  Description

Position

Indicates the X, Y, and Z positions of the selected point or the center of the selected neighborhood in the world coordinate system.

Note When probing neighborhoods, the diameter of the selected Disk or Sphere probe or the side measurement of the selected Square or Cube probe, will also be indicated.

For datasets

Value… Indicates the intensity value of the selected voxel or the value of the voxel in the center of the selected neighborhood.

Voxel count*… Indicates the number of voxels in the probed neighborhood.

Mean*… Indicates the mean value of the voxels in the probed neighborhood.

Min*… Indicates the minimum value of the voxels in the probed neighborhood.

Max*… Indicates the maximum value of the voxels in the probed neighborhood.

Standard Deviation*… Indicates the standard deviation of the voxel values in the probed neighborhood.

Voxel… Indicates the X, Y, and Z positions of the selected point or the center of the selected neighborhood in the image coordinate system.

For multi-ROIs

Label… Indicates the label value of the selected voxel or the value of the voxel in the center of the selected neighborhood.

Voxel… Indicates the X, Y, and Z positions of the selected point or the center of the selected neighborhood in the image coordinate system.

Scalar values… Indicates the scalar values, such as volume, surface area, Phi and Theta angles, or class, associated with the selected label.

For meshes**

Face index… Indicates the index value of the selected mesh face.

Vertex index… Indicates the index value of the selected mesh vertex.

Vertex scalar values… Indicates the scalar values, such as volume, surface area, Phi and Theta angles, or class, associated with the selected vertex index. Available for meshes with scalar values only.

For graphs**

Edge index… Indicates the index value of the selected graph edge.

Node index… Indicates the index value of the selected graph node.

Edge scalar values… Indicates the scalar values, such as length, associated with the selected edge index.

Node scalar values… Indicates the scalar values, such as segment length, segment Euclidean length, and pore diameter, associated with the selected vertex index.

* Available for the Disk, Square, Sphere, and Cube probe tools only.
** Meshes and graphs can only be probed in 3D views.
